Landscape Photography - Peter Wilkinson
Tuesday 21 November 2023
19:30 to 21:30
Pete is a photographer and filmmaker working out of The Wynd Gallery in the centre of Hexham, Northumberland. Originally from Fourstones, Pete’s education and career took him to London via Newcastle, first training and then working for several years as an actor.
After collaborations with a new-writing theatre, Pete started to lean towards writing and creating his own work. His first theatre script earned him an invitation to be part of the Young Writers Group at the Royal Court Theatre, and while training there, he started to write and produce short films with director Matt Rozier. In 2010 They started Blind Crow Pictures – a film partnership creating short narrative pieces and producing promotional content for the Arts and Culture Industry in London.
Over the next ten years Pete produced over 300 promotional documentaries for clients as varied as The Tower of London, The Young Vic, Barclaycard, and the British Library to name but a few.
He also spent five years balancing this work with a part time role as a Senior Lecturer in Performance at Teesside University. As a past time, Pete would go hiking most weeks, and in 2016 he started to take his camera with him to document his routes.
Within two years he had moved back to Hexham to spend more time out with his camera, had started accepting photography commissions around the UK and abroad, and had been shortlisted for UK Landscape Photographer of the Year, British Photographer of the Year, and Outdoor Photographer of the Year.
Nearing the end of 2023, Pete continues to run Blind Crow Pictures with Matt, spending half of his time as a filmmaker working for some wonderful clients. The other half of Pete’s time is spent either in The Wynd – his small gallery in the centre of Hexham where he sells his images – or out walking with his camera, exploring the same Northumbrian woodlands and riverbanks he’s visited since he was a child.
