George Ledger – My journey into Sports Photography

24th September 2019 - 7:30 pm at The Torch Centre, Hexham

In 2010 George retired from his ‘proper’ job and needed something to fill his time. In a daft moment after seeing a report on the ‘up and coming London Olympics’ he decided that he would become a Sports Photographer!

Over the next few years he spent a lot of time sending emails, making telephone calls all in a bid to get a foot on the ladder, not to mention taking photos.  He attempted to photograph as many different sports as he could in a variety of locations .  Says George, “As 2020 nears I think I need to do something else to fill my time, I’ll let you decide if I came close to fulfilling the dream.”

George has been a member of Hexham & District Photographic Society and Consett Photographic Society for more years than he cares to think about. During this time his main interests have always been Wildlife and Nature although he has been known to photograph other things when needed. Says George, “I’ve been a NCPF Lecturer and Judge for over 20 years, an RPS member (and 5 years on the area committee) and achieved my ARPS and DPAGB awards along the way.”
