This years excellent keynote by nationally acclaimed photographer, Ian Macdonald took place in the Forum Cinema on Tuesday the 24th April. The evening, which was open to the public, included a screening of a documentary film ‘Shooting Time’ covering Ian’s early work on Teesside and a presentation on his more recent work. The evening also provided an ideal opportunity to socialise with members whilst viewing an exhibition of members work over refreshments and a excellent buffet in the forum Café. Our last competition for the three Print competition series was held at our normal venue at the Torch Centre opposite Hexham General Hospital on 6th February 2017. Many thanks to John Williams DPAGB EFIPA/b MPSA, from Penrith and District Camera Club, who provided a great evening of judging. As usual with our print competitions the turnout was high, with members eager to learn what the judge made of their prints. Our 2nd Print Competition took place on 2nd January and was Judged this year by Dave Phillips from Hartlepool. I think Dave impressed everyone with his judging. As he managed to deliver a thorough evaluation on each print, despite having a total of 34 Monochrome and 44 Colour prints to get through in the meeting – no mean feat! . Our first Print Competition of the season was judged on 14th November at the Torch Centre by Gerald Chamberlin from Carlisle. He is Chairman and Competition Secretary of Morton Photographic Society. Calling all eagle-eyed photographers! Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership are looking to produce a calendar for 2018 to showcase the diversity and beauty of the landscape and stations along the line. We’re inviting budding amateur photographers to capture and submit images of their local station and the line. The subject for the competition is “My Local Station in the Community.” The theme is open to individual interpretation but entries must have the Tyne Valley railway line at their heart. You might choose to depict the railway station in question, focus on a notable element of the station (a footbridge, signalbox etc.), or closely related landscapes.
