First PDI Competition Results 2017-18

Our First PDI Competition results were presented at our club night on 19th September. The Theme REFLECTIONS was well represented and judged by our members.

Photography Competition – Stephenson’s Newcastle

In 2018, the year of ICE’s 200th birthday, ICE North East is launching a new Stephenson’s Newcastle leaflet to celebrate the lives and works of George and Robert Stephenson. We are seeking photography of a list of locations which will form the basis of this new leaflet.   The photography competition is open to amateurs and professionals – schools, colleges, universities, photography clubs, members of the public, as well as industry colleagues.     Choose from a list of significant civil engineering projects across the region, and send in your photograph. Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership Photographic Competition

Calling all eagle-eyed photographers! Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership are looking to produce a calendar for 2018 to showcase the diversity and beauty of the landscape and stations along the line.   We’re inviting budding amateur photographers to capture and submit images of their local station and the line. The subject for the competition is “My Local Station in the Community.” The theme is open to individual interpretation but entries must have the Tyne Valley railway line at their heart. Annual Exhibition 2017 Now Open.

Hexham Photographic Society are pleased to announce that the opening of our 2017 annual exhibition took place this evening. The exhibition is once again being hosted by Hexham Abbey and can be found in the North Transept.     This exhibition has grown on last year and features around 80 prints plus many digital images produced by our members. In addition the organising committee have worked hard to improve the display and the lighting of the images to enhance visitors enjoyment of the work. Visiting is free and the event is open between 9am and 5pm daily until the 27th August, address details can be found by clicking here.

Tyne Rivers Trust – calls for river photos again

The Tyne Rivers Trust are asking for photographers to enter their images of the Tyne Catchment for the 2017 photo competition. Images must have been taken this year and have the River Tyne or one of its tributaries as the subject. Last year Hexham member Bob Turner had his winter image of the Tyne at Hexham selected as the December image for the calendar.     The winning images will be used in the Tyne Rivers Trust 2018 Calendar which will be sold to raise money for the Trust’s work of conserving and regenerating the river. 1st PDI Competition – Reflections

Now that the summer assignments to the Farne Islands are done, my next task is to start the new season of PDI competitions. Print Of The Year 2017

Our last Print Competition of the season – ‘Print of the Year’ was held at the Torch Centre on Tuesday 11th April 2017. We had an excellent entry this year with 52 prints in total! St Oswald’s Hospice Calendar Competition

St Oswalds Hospice have launched a search for images to feature in the 2018 St Oswald’s Hospice calendar and would love to invite members to get involved.   They are looking for unique, creative and eye-catching images of our beautiful region to feature in their popular calendar, which is sold in their charity shops across the region and online at This competition is a great opportunity for you to see your best work in print, as well as support a local charity.   If any members would like to take part, St Oswald’s are now accepting entries via email.
